Zotero is laid out in three columns with a toolbar on the top.

My Library: collections/folders you created

Tags: tags (aka subject terms) for items

Items: a list of all items in My Library OR the items in a selected collection/folder. 

Includes icon indicating the type of item (book, article, thesis, screenshot, etc.).

 Detailed information about a specific item you selected in the center column
