Zotero: Not just a citation management tool

Use Zotero to collect, manage, cite, and share research sources for FREE!

Getting Started

1. Download the Zotero application and install it on your computer.
2. Download the browser connector for your preferred browser.

If you have Word, make sure it is closed so the Zotero toolbar can be added to it.

3. Create a free Zotero account. 

An account allows you to access your collections from anywhere, back up files, and join groups. 

After creating your account, you will receive a confirmation email with information for the next step. 

4. Sync your account with the Zotero app.

Instructions for syncing will be in the registration confirmation email.


You are ready to start!

Just remember to open the Zotero App before saving items to your collections.

Test the Zotero Connector

The Zotero Connector lets you save citations and PDFs with ONE click. 

After installing the Zotero Connector,  you should see a new icon in your browser toolbar. The Connector can determine the item type (article, book, web page) you are viewing and the icon will change to match the type of item you are viewing.

  • Z icon: For a blank or generic web page/tab

  • Blank Page or Book icon
