The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is a standardized test that is often an admissions requirement for graduate schools in the United States, Canada, and a few other countries. The GRE General Test measures verbal, quantitative, and analytical reasoning skills as well as critical thinking skills and writing ability. These are the skills deemed necessary for success in any graduate program.
There are also four subject-specific tests: Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, and Psychology. The subject tests measure your knowledge of facts and concepts within a specific subject area. Whether you take one or both tests depends upon your chosen field of study.
The GRE is owned and administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS).
